Accidents at night after stopping using nappies - what is normal?

Ds 3.5 has been nappy free in the daytime for the past 6 months but was still waking up with wet nappies in the morning.

Two weeks ago they were suddenly dry nearly every morning so we stopped using nappies at bed time and made sure he had a wee before bed and no big drinks before sleep.

He has wet the bed about 4 times in past two weeks. Is that normal when just starting or does it mean he isn't ready? I am totally clueless!

Being dry at night is hormonal. I'd just stick him back in nappies until he's consistently dry every morning.

Lift him for a wee when you go to bed and see if that works.
My DGC were lifted at night until they were 5 and they were out of nappies in the day before they were 2.

Thanks both. Perhaps I will try the lifting at my bed time and if that doesn't work go back to nappies for a while.

Don't believe lifting is currently recommended. Something about reinforcing weeing in sleep.

How fussed is he about nappies at night? How fussed are you about the washing? It's hormonal,but I believe also a bit of wak ng, knowing they need a wee, and going to the bathroom rather than letting into the nappy - that isn't there!

I wouldn't say I'm keen on constantly washing bedding. I don't think he would be too upset if we put the nappy back on at night.

How long should it take for the hormonal changes? Is there an age by which he should be dry?

The medical folk are not concerned about nighttime dryness til 7 yes old.
Lots of kids start school needing anappy (or pyjama pants) at night. 3.5 is not unusual to be wet at night.

Sometimes the official guidance is wrong and considering that it changes every few years then it is wrong at some time.

I think the disturbance, sitting up right and feeling the toilet seat or potty is the trigger for a wee for children who are lifted.
