We are on day 7 of potty training DS who is 2 yrs 8 mths. I think it's been going well, he takes himself off to the potty without prompting, takes down his pants and will pick up the potty and take it to toilet on his own. Have had a few accidents only.

The trouble is he wants to use it constantly, maybe every 5 mins or so, and seems to be straining to do even the smallest of wees. He looks so proud of himself when he produces anything! It's not even because of bribery as we've stopped giving him stickers. Is this normal in the first few days? I guess I should be pleased that he's comfortable using the potty, but at this rate I'm not sure how we're ever going to be able to leave the house!! Any thoughts/reassurance please??

awww... he's just practising! Pleased at what his body can do. The novelty will wear off & you'll be back to moaning about unwanted puddles.

Thanks. I think maybe it would be better if we went out as the distraction might help him think about something other than the potty! I don't want to discourage him either.

Put the potty out of the way so he can't get to it himself and distract him when he asks for a while, slowly building up his ability to hold his pee.

Put him in a pullup when you are out and do the same.

totally agree with putting the potty away and distracting him for a while when he asks, something like "good boy for telling me, lets do this first".
