Do I just back off again?

DD1 will be 4 in October. Our first attempt at potty training was at 2.4 months. Total failure, hysterical withholding and urine infection followed.

I left it for over six months and tried again at 3. No success, complete refusal to go anywhere near potty or toilet.

So we've tried again today, she's had 9 mini wee accidents, withheld poo and seemed generally uncomfortable despite sitting on the potty. She just sits there and tells me it's not working.

So now it's 10pm, she's still awake (not normal) and just let out a huge groan and flooded her nighttime nappy and bed.

I've washed her down, changed her and the bed. Said oops never mind and we had a lovely hug. She seems happy enough, but she I feel bad for her. She was in pain from withholding.

Do I continue or give up?

She is intellectually advanced for her age (can read, write, do basic maths), but didn't walk until she was two. She is generally very sensitive and this just pushes her to the limit.

I'm at a loss what to do now? Do I just give it another couple of months and try again or should I continue?
