After a long road my 3 year old has finally done a wee in the toilet and has been asking to go for the first time today.

He is usually in pull ups, so my question is, its likely we will go food shopping tomorrow and then possible out for a meal. What do I do? Leave him in pants like today (but take lots of spare clothes!) Or put him in pull ups? I have mats for the car seat so not worried about that, but I am worried about shop floors etc!

Its only his first day wearing pants and using the toilet (usually sits on it but does nothing) but he just uses pull ups like a nappy so don't want to go backwards already..

Any ideas?

At this stage i would still use a nappy when out of the house. Just explain that big boy pants are for home.

BUT if you use pullups anyway then regularly taking him to the toilet and asking him to try and wee is a good idea too.

You could put pull ups over his new pants, so you're not regressing and he can still feel the wet. But you won't get a puddle!

Thanks for replying both of you Smile

I put him in pants anyway and we have had no accidents whilst out! He's been really good at asking to go but I was nervous about getting the bus with him today so put pull ups on just for the journey. Might try your idea though alwaysalaughtobehad, if I need to again!
