Struggling with weeing on the potty/loo

Hello, we've recently gone all-out for potty training with my 3.1 year old girl after a some half-hearted attempts over the last few months and we are now 6 days in. She is in pants and leggings.

She doesn't like sitting on the potty or loo and always says no when asked if she wants to go. I'll offer to read her a book or watch clips of her dancing on my phone (which she loves doing!) and this seems to help but she just can't wee unless she's started in her pants and I've raced her to the loo.

So far she's only managed one wee on a potty from scratch.

She has managed a couple of poos - either from half way through but yesterday from me spotting that she needed to.

I think part of the problem is that she strains and doesn't seem to be able to relax enough to wee. I've tried sitting her on the loo with her pants still on but no avail.

I'm now a bit worried as she is holding it for hours rather than just wetting herself as she was a few days.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might help? She's been mostly cloth bummed and we've always been very open about using the loo and she knows where wee and poo is supposed to go.

I don't really want to give up as it feels like we've made some progress and I don't want her getting down-hearted but equally I'm concerned she might give herself a UTI if she keeps withholding.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

No advice but in similar position. DS2 is 2.10. Week and a half in pants. Hates potty and toilet. Says no to everything. One tiny splash in potty so far. Is withholding wees.

Thanks Fluffy - at least we're not alone! Today is her first day at nursery since we started and they rang to say she is refusing to sit on the loo. Sad

They've made a sticker chart with her so will see if that makes any difference...

Not sure what we'll do if not, she now doesn't want to wear a nappy in the day either so just got to persevere until she gets it I guess! (Been to buy more leggings today!)

Hi Fluffy, how are things going with your DS? We finally had a break through on Friday morning when DD actually asked to go for a wee and did it on the loo! I didn't do anything different so I don't know quite what made the difference I'm afraid!

She's managed a couple more times since although we're still having more accidents than successes - but it feels like we are now on the right road.

DD still hates being asked and refuses to ever try so I think it just a case of sticking with it till she gets there.

Hope you are also having a bit more success!

Glad to hear you have had some success. We had the second wee on potty in 2 weeks today. Very slow progress. It was tiny and dripped out but he was pleased he had done it at least. All other wees in pants. Poos in nappy on waking. Nursery not particularly helpful. He seems to be withholding the whole 5 hours he is there. Keep plodding on.

Well done to your DS for today! We seem to be on one success a day at the moment. Anything else is just managing to spot it at just the right moment.

And yes, she can hold it for flipping hours! She was dry all day yesterday - but only had one wee all day! I'm trying to encourage her to drink more, she's usually pretty good but I think she's drunk less than usual and is making up for it at night as she has a non spill cup in bed.
