Is it normal for toddler to forget he's not got a nappy on?
He needs constant reminding to go for a wee and won't tell me when he needs it.
I'm not sure if this means he still isn't ready.

I say do you need a wee? And every time he'll say no, but then he'll wet his pants.

He'll happily go on the potty when I say to sit on it and do a wee.
He just won't/doesn't tell me when he actually needs to go.

I only started training on Monday and only when we are at home at the moment. He done a poo on the potty but I think he didn't mean to because he immediately wanted to get up and be cleaned up. I gave him so much praise but then he finnished the poo in his pants!

Is it a good idea to carry on how we are or leave it a bit longer?

Might not be ready, I'd leave it a bit longer. Get some extra-attractive pants for him (dinosaurs/ cars, whatever he is into) and tell him they are the big prize when he is ready. Unless there is a big reason to push it now? Some pre-schools are quite insistent. I started too early with mine mainly because my DM was pushing and I lost my nerve.

The next time anybody will ask when he potty trained is never once he is 4.
