Night time regression at 5 (nearly 6) - any experiences?

DS has been daytime dry for almost 3 years and nighttime dry for the last 2. He's had the occasional spurt of accidents at night (a couple in a week, and then nothing for months), but for the last 6 weeks or so he has been wetting the bed so regularly that he's gone back in to pull ups. His pull up is now soaked every morning.
We can't think of any reason for him to start wetting the bed so consistently at this age (he'll be 6 next month). Does anyone have any experience of this?
Also I'm wondering if the pull ups are just creating a need. We started them because the interrupted sleep was too hard, but now I feel he relies on them.
I ran out this evening so just put a towel on his bed, let's see how that works out.

Watching with interest as we have this too. Am just assuming it will pass. Sometimes she'll go a week dry, then wet every night for 4 days
