Started training my 2.8 year old at weekend (side note he's ex-prem so 2.6 corrected), after just over a week of pre-training i.e. sitting on the potty/toilet three times a day (happy to do it), reading potty stories and singing potty songs - he had one accidental success during this period so he got heaps of praise and a treat (spoon of honey).
We're now three days in and haven't had a single successful use of the potty, he wees every 90 minutes or so and poops a couple of times a day at regular times, so we've taken him to the toilet (his preference) at roughly the right time and we stay there for 15 minutes each time reminding him what he's there for and then having fun reading stories etc.
When he's had enough he wants to get down so we let him and get him dressed again, he usually then goes in his pants within a couple of minutes. Today he didn't go straight away so after another half hour playing I told him time for toilet helped him take his pants off and he started getting upset saying he didn't need to go pulled his own undies and pants back up and then wee'd in them (and as is standard told me with some surprise that he'd wee'd).
At first I thought he didn't know when he needed to go, now I think he knows but doesn't want or feel right going in the toilet despite the promise (and visual prompt) of a sticker chart and chocolate button treat? Hopefully y'all agree with that assessment?
The question then is have you dealt with this and how do you recommend helping get over it and onto the toilet? (We don't make a fuss about accidents just clean up and say nevermind and remind him to use the toilet next time)
Sorry for super long post, thanks for sticking with it.
