Only goes on potty when I tell him

Hey there,

I'm trying to potty train my oldest and he is 2 and 8 months. I've had him in pants at home when I'm not at work and he'll pee in the potty fine when I ask him to sit on it every hour or so. Thing is, he NEVER asks to go or sits on it himself. Does this mean he's not ready? Or should I try this weekend by just not asking him to sit on the potty? I'm feeling useless at the minute and don't know where to go from here. He's in nappies from Monday to Thursday as I don't want to send him to childminders in pants when he isn't asking to go. Does anyone have any advice????

Thanks in advance :)

it took months before my ds asked to go to the toilet and I would just take him to the toilet regularly. Can you not ask the childminder to do the same? You could use pull ups so it is easier to get them up and down.

I spoke to my childminder yesterday and she is happy to continue this during the week with him :)

One more question, he is still very wet in his nappy in the morning, is this ok or is this an indicator that he isn't ready?

Night training comes after day training and you can't train as such as it is hormone related plus they need to learn to wake when their bladder is full. Normal to be wet in the night while being dry in the day
