21 month old- bonkers or not?

We have a 21 month old who is just starting to speak, perhaps a little slow in that respect but can certainly make point clear.
Has an older sibling so is used to what a toilet is for as she wanders in. Very aware of body parts, can name them all, can pull nappy off and clothing off, has been walking since 11 months so is agile.

Well she has surprisingly just said, "poo", removed nappy, wandered to the toilet and done her thing then shouted yeah.

Given that I have been through the "joy" of potting training my first child at 27 months and it taking three months of varying success (albeit I had a newborn that I was trying to feed at same time!!) I just thought I would wait until youngest child is almost three and we will be done quickly in theory.

So my question is do I run with it? I have a couple of chums who have trained a 2 year old but it just seems like hard work and a little cold outside at the moment. But part of me wants to let my child know I am listening to her and not ignore progress!! I am also conscious that this child is particularly strong willed and I wonder if doing it earlier before she is even more opinionated would be a good plan!

Seriously, if I were you, no definitely not. I tried with Ds just before 2 and failed, I then tried again at 2.6 and thought he must be ready so persevered and have had almost daily accidents since then. He is now almost 3 and we have accidents a couple of times a week. I wish I would have left him till he was 3 and that is exactly what I plan to do with dd. fwiw, he has had 1 poo accident the whole time, it's wees he doesn't get. It's like he just doesn't know when he needs to go. Hth

It does! Thanks. Have mulled it over. Will do toilet at night and in morning to get her used to it and then leave it as quite frankly, life is too short!

Hope your accidents become a thing of the past for 2015, still young really...

I'd keep the nappies and encourage the toilet use. I've trained children at 18 months and others at 4 yrs. they're all different.
