Nursery are going for it but I'm not

DS is 2 yrs 10 months. He's in nursery 2 days, I'm with him the rest of the week. I'm on mat leave with DD 18 weeks.

Since he moved to the preschool room they have been keen to get him out of nappies. I have been putting him in pants at weekends with no success so not convinced he's ready.

They asked to give it a go so I agreed. So for the last 2 days he's been in pants at nursery. They say he's done great, only 1 accident eachday. The problem is they are taking him to the toilet every 15 mins.

Between DD, Christmas, packing to move house ans general life there is no way I can keep that up.

Should I keep him in nappies at home or pants and accept I will have more accidents than at nursery? Not sure I can cope with more stress at the moment but I don't want to hold him back.

well I think it needs to be one or the other too confusing for him to be in pants at nursery and nappies at home.

I would carry on tbh. 15 mins will only be for a few days, then 30 mins, then hourly, then alone. So if 15 mins today and over weekend, by next week 30 mins, then should be only hourly by Xmas

It's inconvient at all times of the year tbh and I find far more inconvient having to change an unexpected shitty nappy than being able to get them to go beforehand

Could you just get a potty that you keep with you downstairs and get him to sit on that every 15 minutes? Just an idea btw, not saying what you should do at all!

It's not going to work if you are not on board too. It will involve work from you whether you do it now or later. At nearly 3 he should be potty training and seems ready if he is managing at nursery with the expected level of support. He isn't just suddenly start using the look all by himself without going through the being taken very regularly phase. The gaps between looking trips do get longer though so it is not that level of work for long. Once you have put in the effort and he is toilet trained trips out etc will become a lot easier.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure how long the every 15 mins bit lasted. I do have potties in 3 rooms but he won't sit on them.

What about when we go out? Nursery put him in a nappy to go to the park and his nap. We go to playgroup each morning 10 - 12 then home for lunch then out to park or shops at 1ish and he naps in the pram on the way home, so we're not home very much. Do I need to stay in for a few days? (this scares me, he's much better behaved in the fresh air).

I'd leave it till he's older, personally. DS is the same age and there's no way I'd try him, he just wouldn't be interested enough for it to work.

Our creche didn't start DD till she was 3 and we didn't have the 'every 15 minutes' thing. I think the older they are when you start, the easier it is for everyone.

I would stay at home a few days. It's already fri. Stay in until Monday.

Then on Monday get him to go to toilet at home before you leave to toddler group, then take as soon as you arrive. Again before you leave and on arrival home. In between if needed.
I would take him out for a walk, and nap at home if possible, so nappy on for nap for now

Personally I hate potties! I recommend a toilet seat for regular toilet. As otherwise you need to Tain to use toilet when out and they might only want a potty! Plus potties unhyenic and require more cleaning

As a side, once your 18 week old can sit with help and hold head ( probably next few weeks), I recommend sitting him on toilet at bathtimes and when changing nappy if near toilet. Makes the whole training process easier as they are used to always sitting on toilet and using. With this method both mine pooed 99% in toilet by 10/12 months, and fully trained by 15/18months ( elder one trained slightly earlier than younger).
