Potty training is making me an angry mummy!!

DD is 2.2 and we've been potty training for 2 months now. Generally it has been going really well, she 'got it' at home and at nursery. In the last week she has regressed; pooing herself and wetting herself and it's making me really angry!!! I am biting my tongue robot get angry at her. For example,

Where was I?
For example, She didn't wee after her nap, I knew she needed to wee as she was holding herself, she had a melt down when I tried to get her to sit on potty, she then went in other room and wet herself! Arghhhhh!!!

I haven't been through potty training yet, but 2.2 is still very young. Maybe leave it for a while, try again in a couple of months..? She was doing very well to get it at all age 2.0, 2.1

She was showing all the signs; fascinated with the toilet, telling me when she needed to go and she she had been...
I've just researched a connection between teething and regression as she is definitely teething. She's also got awful nappy rash. I'm now wondering if I should pop to drs to check she's not got a UTI...

Ooh yes, I can see how teething could set her back, it seems to affect everything, sleep, appetite etc so why not potty training. Poor baba. No harm in going to docs just to be sure.

Definitely worth popping her to the docs just to check, teething makes my DS so run down he picks up colds etc.

It might be worth going back to nappies for a few days whilst she's not 100% and then picking up where you left off when she's feeling better. I don't think potty training is a linear improvement anyways - it'll be up and down with good days and not so good days.

Thanks, I needed reassurance that I wasn't being totally unreasonable to think there may be a cause!
I wish it was easy, but I guess that's just parenthood all over eh!!!!

So I went to see health visitor, although friendly she didn't offer any advice and DD wet herself 2x when we got home. Argh!
See how she does at nursery tmrw.

If I were you i'd honestly give it a break and come back to it in 4 months time. You don't want to stress yourself out and make her pick up on it and get a complex. 2.2 is still so young to be toilet training. Good luck

seriously, if you have a 2.2 year old out of nappies you need to accept that she will have a few regressions and have accidents. When it happens you either accept, go with it and smile or you go back to nappies. Relax. ...... getting angry will make it worse, she's 2 so if she learns that if she wets herself it winds you up you are on a loser .

Mines 2.10 and dreadful in comparison to her sister, it's one big game to her - she gets it but on her list of priorities having a wee is pretty low I nearly put her back her back in nappies about 3 weeks ago decided not to do so here we are and it is what it is.

DS is 2.6 and we have been potty training for about 5 months.
He too "got it" really quick and I thought "well, that was easy"!

2 months in he got a really nasty cold, was really miserable and started refusing potty/ toilet seat and started running off to hide to wee himself.
It was driving me absolutely barmy, because he'd been perfect up till that point. (obviously I didn't let on that I was annoyed!)

He has just reached the point we were at 5 months ago, but this time I'm thinking its sticking - a whole 5 days without an accident so far!

So they do get there eventually, and it seems the regression thing is quite common.

My DD potty trained early as well, I think you have to accept that they are more prone to regressions when they are little. I totally understand the rage though, when dc2 was born we had a major regression and it drove me crazy.

I went down the route of bribery. As in - let's just sit on the potty and count to 10 and then you can have a Smartie.

We also worked out that she was only wetting her knickers when she was alone, so if she went off into another room I'd go with her so she was never alone. That was annoying too but I only had to do it for 3-4 days and we saw a big improvement.

And it's worth getting checked for a uti although when dd had one she was clearly distressed, crying when she needed a wee rather than having accidents.

I really wouldn't advise ditching the training, I'm not sure that will help long term as your dd was doing so well.

Yesterday at nursery she had one messy accident but was good otherwise, and was good at home after and this morning, I am hoping that she was just having a blip!

Have been speaking about her cousins who are older and friends who don't use nappies as motivation.
Am really going for sticker bribe and may try chocolate buttons if needed!!

I think I was pre-menstrual getting stressed!!

Potty training is proving to be one of my least favourite things so far...my DD is 2.10 and out of day nappies for a month. It has been very slow going. We took her out of nappies and decided not to go back during the day because she is starting nursery in January and we wanted to give her time to get the hang of it before then. Also...she is pushing 3 and it seemed time. She showed no inclination but I think it is only through the accidents that she will really click about it - I hope anyway! I find it VERY frustrating when I have just asked her to have a go on the potty/ loo and she refuses and then does a wee in her clothes minutes later! Am having to do plenty of consciously putting myself in her shoes!

I really wouldn't consider stopping now! Regressions are really common. Its as if they get bored once they have mastered the skill & need extra bribery to get back on track.

I say persevere. She is clearly able.
