Is there a decent potty training book out there?

DS is 20m and our thoughts are turning to potty training, but we really are clueless about what we should be doing and so some kind of a steer to help us on our way would be helpful!

So...any worthwhile books out there that you would recommend? Or other sources of useful info? - apart from MN obviously Grin

Pirate Pete is meant to be good.

IMO the only good thing about Gina Ford was her potty training book I found one in a charity shop and found it decent sensible advice.

I read the gina ford one but to be honest the best advice is on the Internet.

As for kids books, I had one called 'the potty book for girls' also an app called potty time that she liked just to help her learn about the potty.

DS enjoyed Pirate Pete & I think there's a Princess Polly version as well. Plus stickers - lots of stickers!

There's a little princess one called "I want my potty" which dd loved.

I agree about the Gina ford book
I've been potty training children for over 20 years as part of my job and always recommend the Gina ford book to parents when they ask for advice
I'll also addy own piece of advice.
Don't start until your DC show signs of being ready or you will just drag it our for months and you will end up miserable
It can be done in a week but the child needs to be ready developmentally

Thanks insancere I think that makes complete sense to me. I've always tried to parent instinctively, which sounds massively wanky but it basically means I just paid attention to DS and its done us well so far with other developmental stages. I don't feel like he's ready yet but want to be good to go for when he is. Not a fan of Gina ford at all from what I've heard of her but I will check out her book to see what it's like. Thanks!

How do you know when they're "ready"?!
