Have I ruined everything?

My DS is 3.6 and has resisted all attempts at potty training until very recently. In the past week he has been using the potty for wees if he's naked from the waist down, although still with quite a few accidents. Today we were playing upstairs when he was bare-bottomed and I'd put a potty out and made sure he knew where it was. I nipped away to get my DD from her nap and came back to find him standing on our bed doing a wee. Before I could stop myself I yelled at him to stop and he got quite upset. Later when we suggested he use the potty he became really distressed although he did sit on it eventually, but he didn't do anything. I feel so bad and I'm worried I've undone months of gentle cajoling in one fell swoop.

Can anyone advise what I should do next? Can I press on or do I need to back off for a bit? Thanks

I don't think you've ruined everything, don't worry. Retrospective is great isn't it, don't beat yourself up at least you'll know next time to move the potty to him.

We have all done it, Smile just continue doing what you are doing with lots of praise.

Bless you FrancesPow. It is sooooo difficult to keep it together sometimes and Piratejones is right in that we have all been there at some point and felt rubbish afterwards but it's in the past and you can only try to pick up and carry on. I'm 2 years in to the process now and I have had to just walk away from these moments so many times because I thought I was going to explode. It isn't easy so I will not sell you any lies but keep going.

In the meantime I can recommend using cat litter to help with the mattress clean up as it draws the moisture out!

Thanks everyone. We've had a couple more wees in the right place so I don't think I've scarred him for life, hopefully. Great tip about the cat litter, northyorksbelle!
