Is he ready for potty training?

Ds is 21 months and showing lots of interest in toilets/poos etc. but I am unsure if he's actually ready for potty training or I should wait and just encourage these developments. The signs he's showing are:

  1. he tells me when he has done a poo in his nappy, however it is still hit and miss as to whether he has or not.

  2. he tells me he wants to do poo/wee in the toilet but he has only done this very recently and only a couple of times not every time he goes.

  3. he's interested in the toilet and wants to see us when we go to the toilet but then it's not something he mentions all the time or every time he goes to the toilet in his nappy.

My mum says I should buy a potty and just have it there to get used to it. Should I? I guess it would encourage his natural interest in it as I don't want to miss the window of opportunity of his enthusiasm for it.

Don't really have any useful advice as we are in the same position. We do have a potty though. Tonight and yesterday night at bedtime DS has asked for his potty and done a wee in it. He is still getting dirty and wet nappies through out the day. Confused

If he can use the toilet, you can bypass the potty.
Just use a toilet adaptor.

With DS the major hurdle was to get him to do a wee and a poo not in his nappy. Once he could, then it was very easy.

Can your DS hold peeing for a while?

I ve no idea about holding pee as just does it in his nappy. However once I took his nappy off and he was wondering around for a minute or two while I got another one out and he weed on the floor so in am guessing no! Not at that stage of waiting to wee at all just thinking of introducing potty to sit on when needs wee but he's not telling me when he needs a wee so when would I put him on it? How would I know?
