What do I do now? I could scream :(

DS is 8 and has autism and learning disabilities and a variety of health problems.

He used to leak urine all the time but was out on ditropan to help strengthen his bladder 3 weeks ago and we started toilet training. It was going really well, he was using the potty and was having 1-2 accidents a day, and the accidents were big wees not little trickles like before.

But since Tuesday, even though he's still on the medicine, things seem to be getting progressively worse. He now needs to go to the toilet every 2-3 minutes! We can't leave the house. How has this even happened? What do I do now?

Bumping this because I'm desperate.

I think talk to his doctor about the medicine not working. Also I wonder if there could be some anxiety about the change from nappies to potty. Could it be he is so absorbed in what he is doing he doesn't realise he needs to go until it is too late. Ds1 (standard neurology,) was like this and his wees were so big they would gush out of his nappy-aged three. The issue is, is it the medicine not working, is it the autism, is it his health problems or combinations of them? It is so easy to blame yourself, but you sound really kind and supportive. In the world of autism three weeks is hardly any time at all. My friend has an autistic DS. Seek advice from his doctor/consultant, you need support.

I am wondering if you would get a better response posting in special educational needs?

His bladder control disappeared during one of his neurological regressions, caused by unknown but a suspected rare genetic disorder. But the medicine really was working.

I'll probably try his paed tomorrow but no doubt I'll not be able to get hold of him for weeks

I wonder whether to just put the nappies back on while you wait as it will be slow in August as everyone is on holiday. It also takes the pressure off. Not a failure, a work in progress. It took me just over a year to potty train ds1. My friend has the same level of waiting, it is so frustrating. It might just be that the medicine isn't quite at the right dose. Potty training is the worst.
