Problem with foreign toilets
5

Not continental ones....

Basically we've been casually potty training DD and now she's really good at home with her potty and her toilet. She'll go at nursery (probably peer pressure) but suggesting that she use any other toilet eg in a cafe/at a Playgroup results in the screaming ab-dabs. As a result, she's in big girl knickers at home and pull ups out and about. I know we won't get much further until we knock the pull ups on the head, but don't know how to do this if she has a tantrum at the prospect of any other loo. Weeing in bushes etc are similarly unacceptable, even though I've packaged them up as Wild Wees (and she's usually one for a gimmick).

How can I calm her down and get her on any old loo and not just her one??

Can she tell you what it is that scares her?

Maybe try going into a toilet where it in an indivial toilet rather than a cubicle to start with? Not for her to wee but just to watch you, or wash her hands or even just to go in and look!

She won't articulate it other than screaming "no, no, no" and generally being a bit hysterical. I reckon she might come in and watch me though, so that's a good idea. I can't understand why she's so upset by it. She loves sitting on the loo at home...

is it defiently the toilet and not the handdryers? Took ages to get DS into public toilets because he was worried of them. 2 years down the line he still hates the sound of them

Have you tried taking your potty into a public toilet? Or a travel potty if you don't fancy carrying a proper one about Grin - we've got a Potette plus which can also be used as a toddler seat on the toilet - so maybe get her confident with the potty in the cubicle, then move towards her using the toilet with the toddler seat, then hold her on the toilet? Does she see you using public toilets?

We have a sort of opposite issue - dd2 is fine at home, will wee anywhere - potty or toilet, or anywhere out of the house apart from nursery where she holds it in until we get home Hmm. I've tried taking our potty there, getting them to try her on the toilet rather than the potty, with no success. I'm hoping the summer break will make her forget whatever the issue is Grin

She definitely doesn't like the hand dryers either. I think it's the whole experience really. Starting to think a potette might be an idea, but was so hoping to get through at least one big baby/toddler thing without buying loads of kit!
