Ds is nearly 3 (september) and yesterday we decided to give up nappies during the day, with his consent. We've had the potty hanging around for ages and have had frequent no nappy time before bed and, lately, during the day. He had never weed in the potty though had a few wee accidents.

So since yesterday, we've had multiple wees out the potty and two poos. One of which was next to the potty. He has managed one wee in the potty for which we praised him.

The main reason we have given up for now is his refusal to sit on the potty when asked. He is a very stubborn child, no idea where he gets that from..., and if he even so much as detects a hint of pressure he will resist. He was happy to put a nappy back on.

Did we give up too easily? Were we expecting too much? Or is it fine to recognise he's maybe not ready and try again in a few weeks? It wasn't helped by the fact that I've been really poorly with mastitis this weekend. This is a whole new minefield of parenting!

Yes, you've given up far too easily. Ridiculously easily. You gave him one day. Most children need between a few days and a couple of weeks to get the hang of it. You need to develop a bit of staying power if you have a stubborn child otherwise he's going to run rings round you!

The worst thing you can do with potty training is do it off and on. Next time make sure you are ready and committed before you take them off.
