3 yo boy standing up to wee help!

I'm not sure if this is really an issue, but wondered what people with boys did!
My son has been toilet trained for 6 months and has been going by himself for about 4 of those-3 months of standing up. Question is-how involved do people get? I've just let him get on with it and he holds his willy, congratulate him that he's done if himself. His grandparents always insist they help him, and I saw they both held his willy. Now I know obviously there's nothing out of place about that, but I am desperately paranoid about him starting pre school with strangers caring fot him and that he does it without help. His privates are for him to touch only. How do I get that across to a well meaning relative? Or am I bring ultra controlling about by in laws?!

Why on EARTH do they hold it? Sorry but I'd be sending a rocket up their arse - totally unnecessary and leading him to think it's OK if someone 'helps' him but touching his penis. It is NOT OK.

Tell your IL's that he needs to learn to do it by himself before pre-school and that whilst they may wish to supervise for the moment to make sure he washes his hands etc that you want him to actually wee by himself.

Glad you have both said that, I will say something as I really want him to be independent and even more importantly understand that no one can touch him, they are his privates. Hard when he will whip his clothes off at any point in the garden. But I don't feel comfortable with other people seeing him and definitely touching/helping.

I was thinking this the other day. I'm potty training my DS and my mum and dad both said hold his willy and point it into the toilet so he knows what to do, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that and he's my son! Is it a generation thing that we all now feel is a bit wrong but was common practice?

Yes I wonder that, maybe we are more encouraging on independence rather than not making a mess and "oh let me do that". Mind you my mums an occupational therapist so I've never had much done when I was growing up ha! But very independent!

But I dont feel comfortable holding it for him so wouldn't ever contemplate it with my nephews!
