I'm a big fan of potty training not being hard work for me or the child. DC1 trained at 3.3 yrs. He didn't want to, but I knew he had awareness so went cold turkey. He had only a few wee accidents and no poo accidents and didn't need frequent reminders to go.
DC2 decided for himself that he was training at 2.7 yrs. Wees were cracked in a day, poo took a few more days and he was dry at night by the end of the week. Again, he could go a long time between toilet trips.
DC3 is 2.5 yrs. She is not asking for pants, although we've talked lots about using potties/toilets etc. She tells me when she's wet or soiled her nappy. I tried pants one weekend a month ago. We lasted 3.5 hours. 1 wee in the toilet because I put her there and 4 wees on the floor. But her awareness seems good. She wees on the toilet almost every time she's put on (I put her on at least once a day at nappy change time).
Yesterday morning, she had a dry nappy when she woke up. So today, I put her in pants in the morning. She wee'd on the toilet several times, when put on, twice wet herself, once asked to go, but didn't wee. After lunch, she was dithering so I persuaded her to sit on a potty while read to her and she pooed. Lots of praise and she was proud.
But then we needed to go out to get DC1 some camping stuff, and I bottled out of sticking with pants and put her in a nappy. She slept in the car on the way, and didn't ask for the toilet or tell me she'd wet when we were out. We've been back an hour and she's still in the nappy because I'm wobbling about her readiness. But I know I'm giving her confusing signals.
Does she sound ready enough to go for it, or does it sound more like it would be a long, hard slog for both of us?
