My DD is 3 and a half and I've only recently started "training" her. She showed little interest and I'm pretty laid back so didn't push it. When I tried gentle encouragement she resisted.
Recently she has started using the toilet occasionally. She started doing it at nursery and when staying at a friend's house. But she totally refused to do it at home. If I tried to push the issue she would become distressed and upset.
Now we're making a bit of progress but she's getting stuck. She's quite happy to have nappy free time and if she does then she will use the toilet OK (doesn't always make it but then our toilet is all the way upstairs - refuses to use the potty). She will NOT wear knickers though as she completely freaks out if she has an accident. She becomes really upset and cries a lot even though I do the whole bright and breezy "It doesn't matter, you can try again next time etc etc" and just clean it up without a word...I understand she must be frustrated with herself but I just don't know how to be more firm about it. In some ways I like the fact I'm laid back about it, but in other ways people comment and say I should be tougher.
Do I just stop with pull-ups completely except at night and work through the tantrums and upsets with her? She does seem to have an easier time of it when she's with other people so I'm worried I'm handling it wrong.
