I'm at the end of my tether. My eldest is 4 in July, he goes to school in September and he won't poo on the toilet. I mean he will, but only if I catch him in the process and carry him to the loo, sit with him playing games/reading a book/whatever. When he does poo on the loo it's like a ticker tape parade, New Year's Eve fireworks, and birthday treats all round!!!!

I have tried EVERYTHING to get him to poo on the loo. I've done reward charts, with stars, stickers, prizes (hot wheels cars/days out/treats) I've tried taking away his toys if he doesn't do it, I've tried poo goes to poo land, I've tried sitting with him, talking to him about it, I've even taking him with me when I need to poo to show him everyone does it, it downs hurt and it's better to do it in the loo than in your pants. I feel as though I have tried absolutely everything to get him to voluntarily do a poo on the toilet.

We've been to the doctor who has given him some medicine to soften his poos so they don't hurt him. I've asked advice from the hv and numerous friends. I've tried sitting him on the loo at the same time every day, reading a story with him so he gets used to staying there long enough to poo but nothing seems to work. Whatever we implement works a couple of times but sooner or later he's back doing poos in his pants.

Today he did a poo in his pants at soft play and I broke down in tears. I can't deal with this anymore. How HOW do I get him to go to the toilet to do a poo?

Hi sarah, read the 'why won't he tell us' post and see if it might be helpful to you.

One thing I will say is please try and relax, September is over 4 months away. He will more than likely just 'click' some day soon and this will all be a distant memory for you.
