DS who has just turned 3 and has been potty trained for nearly 6 months. Whilst we only have maybe 3 or 4 accidents a week, I don't know if this normal? I'm always having to prompt him to go to the toilet, he hardly ever asks to go unless it for a poo. I've tried not promoting so much and going back to sticker chart to award when he asks but it hasn't really helped. He also gets prompted a lot at nursery as they have what seems to be a toilet schedule where they regularly take them to the loo. Sorry for long winded post but what I'm trying to get at is- is this normal and will he learn over time to recognise when to go or is there something I could be doing to help him?

stop reminding him and stop giving him stickers
let him know that you now expect him to go to the toilet and not to be reminded
the nursery have done him no favours whatsoever in fact they have probably hindered his toilet training
he isn't trained if he has to rely on being told when to go
he will have more accidents at first but you need go ride it out
he will get it
he just hasn't been given the chance to lean to recognise his own body and react to his own needs

Give him a sticker every time he goes on his own, reward him for being dry rather than going to the toilet.
