7yr old wont poo in toilet

hi,im at my wits end with my 7yr old son

he was potty trained at approx 2half,did have an initial problem with him but HV said it was a control issue and all got sorted.

but he will never poo in the toilet,will wee in it etc but will not use it for a poo

he has no SN and dosent poo in his pants but waits till evening and uses his potty in his bedroom them calls me to get rid,he wipes himself fine etc its just using the potty that hes stubborn with

ive tried everything,bribary,stars etc and nothing will budge him

ive had all the chats etc,hes a quiet child but im getting annoyed now

the toilet is seperate from the bathroom,my twins were very easy to train and im now feeling as if ive indulged him to much and given in for to long

honestly ive always done it for him,do you think emptying it himself could be going in the right direction

I know that the advice from ERIC (child continence charity and very good) is that the child should take responsibility, dependent on age/ability for things like soiled/wet clothes, so certainly emptying the potty would be part of this imo.

I would probably encourage him to use the potty in the bathroom as well rather than in his room. Both of these would be steps in the right direction I think.

Emotying it himself would certainly be a start.

What would happen if you simply removed the potty from the house?

seriously the bathroom floor space is 5ft long and at most 3ft wide and my teenage boys take longgggggg baths so it would be very difficult for him to get in there when needed

no idea if we got rid altogether,im worried that id i did he would hold it in and then have an accident at school or do it in his pants

emptying his own potty is deffo gonna stat tomorrow night,great idea

just cant understand why this is such an issue,he gave his dummy and bottles up without any fight and couldnt believe how easy it was,potty training has been my payback i think

Why have you let this go on for 5 years though?

Well, emptying it himself would be a start, but if you want him to eventually poo on the toilet then something's going to have to be sorted re: long teenage baths anyway surely?

I think the pooing in his bedroom would be a bigger issue to me than the potty.

I suspect this may not resolve itself without help. I'd get to the GP for possible referral to some sort of continence support if I were you.

ERIC have a leaflet on this page with advice re: children who will only poo in a nappy. I guess it's aimed at much younger children, but the some of the advice might be helpful.

long teenage baths yep every night approx 40 mins each and their 14yr twin boys,one would have two a day if he could

i did say to him we would have to go to the gp he said he didnt want to go,if i make the appointment we have to walk there i have visions of him screaming down the road,ive already said we need to see gp so he will know whats coming

think i may make an appointment myself with gp and see what he says also

the game came today that i said he could have if he used the toilet,i made it clear he was only getting it if he played ball

i also told him that he would have to empty it himself

anyway i was clear with him and it was annoying him he couldnt get the game,then he suddenly announced he was going to try the toilet and had a poo

he was so pleased with himself and threw his potty in the bin

he has opened the game and hopefully problem solved,though i am realistic we may have teething problems

That's great! If he can do it once then he can do it every time.

Sometimes it is the seats. If they are small they could be scared of falling in. The loo seats that have a smaller seat in the lid are good.
