Going crazy over poo!!

I started potty training my nearly three year old boy months ago but due to having no patience whilst studying at college I gave up until this current half term where I thought I'd scrap the potty and go straight to the toilet with him as I'd have the time to crack on with it. After only a few days using the plastic child toilet seat, he was doing wees really well and I've been out and about with the seat and he happily goes for a wee using public toilets. My major problem now is that he won't do a poo! He really needs to go as he is clutching at his bottom and I have noticed poo smeared between his bum cheeks.. Since becoming that bit older he would go and hide to poo in his nappy but he won't stay on the toilet by himself and won't do it if I'm there.. He is saying his tummy hurts but I don't want to put a nappy on him just so he can poo as it kind of defeats the object. HELP!!!

Unfortunately I have no advice but you are not alone! my daughter is exactly the same. She is doing so well, dry in the day and night, other than poos! she just won't do them on the toilet or potty and is quite happy to poo her pants! I've lost count of the amount I've had to cut her out of and slung. Very frustrated. Would be good to hear some ideas from others who have got through this :-( x

We are the same at the moment, came on here to ask advice.

We are only a week in - totally dry day and night, but every poo has been in her pants - she even calls out cheerily "Mummy, I'm doing a poo in my pants!"

The other day I tried to encourage her more to use the toilet or potty, she was upset and didn't poo all day, so I have backed right off again.

I have put an enticing-looking present on the bathroom shelf, and she knows if she poos in the loo she can have it - she is excited at the idea, but it has made no difference.

So anyway, you are not alone, here's hoping someone with advice will appear on the thread .

I was hoping for same advice my DS 3 has mastered without me really doing anything (pure luck), the dry at night, when we out (he will hold it for dear life-refuses to pee anywhere except at home even when he was in nappies)

Now the poo he will only do in nappy I've tried we have run out of nappies after 2days i gave in and let him have a nappy. I've tried the usual singing and dancing rewards bribes but nothing.

I don't have any advice but this is a really common problem, it gets worse becuase pushing the issue leads to constipation.

Well dd did a poo in the potty today, so got her present. She was v proud of herself, and we had to phone dh and auntie at work so she could tell them of her triumph. She also told dd 1 all about it over tea .

Fingers crossed she can repeat the feat and it wasn't just a one off!
