what do you do when out and about for newly potty trained

I have just done 3 day potty training and he seems to have cracked it.
hasn't had an accident since yesterday morning and only 1 coz I didn't go with him as I was feeding dd.

we are no longer having to run to the toilet in panic mode and I am just there for moral support as he does it all his self ...... but we still need to get there sharpish..

what do we do when we are out .. we have taught him using the toilet not a potty . (his choice )

You need a potette travel potty for emergencies.

Oh, and bring spare clothes everywhere.

And some kitchen roll and cleaning spray!

I'd second the potette - great idea. Used our for ages and keep in the car for emergencies.

ok I may be heckled for this but does anybody let there ds stand against a bush to pee... (obviousy this os my dp suggestion ) but I do agree it is the quickest way of doing it especially as ds stands up to pee at home?

is this completely socially unacceptable ??

We neer used a potty or travel thing. If trained they should hold on for 5 mins otherwise will be peeing in car etc

We just used public toilets, ones in cafes if needed, or cinema at push. Have down the odd wee up tree but in late parks/ woods not up street. Generally if we say went To library at begiining of training I would get them to wee at home before, on arrival at library, on leaving library and as soon as home. Then other options not needed.

No way on earth I would bring a portable potty with me. It doesn't bear thinking about (rant deleted).
If he can't manage to hold for a few minutes & can get to a loo or at least a big bush, and therefore get by without a portable potty, then I wouldn't rate him as ready at all.
I dunno, I just clocked where toilets were and encouraged him to go when we were near one. I still carried spare clothes, obviously!

I saw a lady helping her DD pee on a bush yesterday. Doesn't bother me, far preferable than the site of a portable potty, but there are some polarised opinions about wild wees (ok for dogs, I guess).

My DS would utterly refuse to wee behind a tree, so it was portable potty or in his trousers.

And at least then there's no chance of it running onto his shoes.

We had a potette which didn't get a lot of use, but this was fab and avoided the need for peeing in bushes or gutters as I've seen other toddlers do.

Where is even suitable for a portable potty. We walked past harrods earlier and ds2 said he needed a wee, I just said he will have to wait 5 mins until cafe. I can imagine people's faces if I whipped out a potty on Knightsbridge high street!
What about on a bus? Would you use it then?

Where do you put them also? In a rucksack? I never use a pram so would be quiet big to carry.

In the car, in the lion enclosure at a safari park, stuck in a queue of traffic.

It came into its own then - but we were very glad when we were out and could open the windows!!!!

Yesterday on the school run we had just got back to the car parked on a quiet cul-de-sac and DS announced he needed an urgent wee. Luckily the potette was in the car and he went on the pavement next to the car.

Also useful for long journeys with lay-bys.

It doubles as a toilet seat for public toilets too.

i just carry around a normal potty in a beach bag. often in the car he will need a wee so we just pull over and he goes in the potty whilst sitting on the floor of a car. he feels safe and secure using his potty and we avoid wet pants. no problem with that!

when going to the library he goes before leaving home, arrival at library, before leaving library and then on arrival at home.

i don't think that makes him not ready.

yes I have a pottette .. I remember I acquired one from a nearly new sale and tucked it away -and lost it- safely .
we have now finished the 3 day training he has been dry everynight and not had an accident since day 2 morning of training and have gone from blind panic dash to the toilet to casually walking and taking it slow and carefully which means he must be holding it a little ...

BUT last night he had two accident !! What does this mean?

Crikey, most people don't do night training until well after day training. It doesn't mean anything, and odd accidents are normal even well after training, especially if they go somewhere exciting and forget about the toilet.

If he continues to have accidents at night, you can always stick a pull-up on him at night and wait till he's a bit older.

i havent even bothered with night training yet because we have wet nappies every morning so i dont think he can hold it yet.

sounds like he has done quite yet well with nights though, does he wake and ask to go to the toilet? or wee in sleep? would a potty in his room help? i have no idea, because we are not at that stage yet!

Another one amazed at the night successes already!

I took changes of clothes and an old towel for accident wipe ups. I was constantly asking him if he needed to go until he told me in no uncertain terms that he'd tell me when he needed to! Also scoped out all the public loos that I'd be happy with him using.

On long car journeys at the beginning I used pull ups.

I can see the positives to the potette but can also understand others reluctance to use them as I can see that they don't encourage them to develop the ability to wait. But then we used the pull ups in car so I wasn't either I suppose!

I used a little fold up toilet seat, think it was called a Toodle Loo. Nothing against portable potties used discreetly in emergencies, but having 2 dc close together meant we already had enough stuff to haul around with us. Also as many others have said, spare clothes, wipes, plastic bags and hand sanitizer whenever you go out.

thanx all dry night last night ... I made sure he went for 2 wee's before bed (before bath and after story ) and we had dinner early and stopped drinks after 6pm I also grabbed him out of bed just as I was going to bed and plonked him on the toilet (for a toilet cuddle ) to see if he needed to go . he has only had the two accidents at night .
3day training has worked really well going to a farm today so will see what happens when he is distracted and having too much fun to remember to go to the loo

went to farm today no accidents at all even made it from one end to another with out a drip !! very impressed with 3 day training... especially after another dry night and nap !
