Hello all - I've been lurking on MN for ages and wondering what would spur me on to post something, but here it is!

I am potty training my 2y1m old DS. I am following his lead - a real interest in all bodily functions, and telling me very clearly he wants to wear big boy pants. Two days in he's doing brilliantly on the potty, doing all his wees very proudly and loves the whole routine of tipping it down the loo, flushing, washing his hands etc.

But, the problem is when I put him into pants - we've not been out much since starting this but were getting cabin fever today so put his pants and trousers on to go out, and he wet almost immediately, and then four times in a row, and got very, very upset by this. This seems to have set him back, since after that he wouldn't go near the potty this evening. Just wondering if this is normal and I should just persevere, and he'll soon get used to the wet feeling and let me know he needs the potty (I am asking him loads too) or am I risking him giving him a massive phobia of big boy pants and set ourselves back?

Thanks all for your wisdom!

PS how did you handle things like playgroup when potty training? Do you keep them away for a few days, or just send tonnes of clean clothes and apologise in advance?!
