HELP!
I have been toilet training my daughter on and off for a year... started last Xmas for 8 weeks, gave up, started again at easter.. took about a long time but we got there - probably by the summer?! We were 'there'. Then on and off for months, overall decline. Took her to visit my mum for a month in November and with granny (and cousins, and auntys and uncles..!) we got there again - whoop! Since we got home though, its back in decline. Her teachers at pre-school do well sweeping her up with her peers and taking her to the toilet each morning - but at home, more often than not when we try it (and we've tried EVERY way/words/tone) we get a tantrum. But she improves greatly when at grannys house...
We have limited success with every strategy - rewards, deterrants, getting cross, being relaxed.... tried them all. all win for a bit then she loses interest.
Some weeks are better than others, she asks for the toilet all week but just always a few seconds too late. Other weeks (like this) are dire, full of pooh in her clothes and wee on the sofa. I am at the end of my tether after cleaning pooh off everything today.
People say she's too old to put back in nappies now and she'll get it eventually - but i cant see how! What's the incentive? How do we draw a line under this and start again - do we need to?
Could there be something medically wrong with her?! My gut feeling is she knows how to do it properly but she just doesn't care.. there is something in her head that makes her hate the toilet.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
