DS 2.9 - just not asking to go. Please help!

Gah!! He's so intelligent but he's just not getting this. This latest attempt of potty training has been going on for about two weeks.

We tried once before when he was about 2.5 with the same result.

We put him on the toilet every half an hour and sometimes he wees and sometimes not, but he knows how to.

However if he needs to go in between he'll just do it on the floor. Poos are just a no go entirely and he waits until his night time nappy is on to do it.

He's been at nursery all day today and has continually wet himself and not asked to go once.

I just don't know how to help him understand that he needs to ask!

Do we just forget it and leave it entirely for a few months? The last thing I want to do is confuse him.

Please help!

I would be tempted to wait. Shame for him to fail at something he might not be ready for, iyswim? DD1 wouldn't play ball when we started early, when she decided she WAS ready it was so easy. We felt like we got off lightly!
