Son not ready?

So we've been trying to potty train three days now, by taking away the nappies and putting pants on my son who is nearly 3, and when he wees putting him on the potty. Three days in he shows absolutely no awareness of doing a wee, he does not even tell me when he has done one I can only tell when his pants are wet and there are puddles on the floor. We have told him to tell us when he's done a wee and he hasn't even been able to do this.

I was expecting some progress by now, but he still seems completely oblivious to it all.

Should I persist or go back to nappies for a bit longer?

It sounds as though he isn't ready.

I'd wait until the weather is a bit warmer and not bother with pants at all at first- for a few days let him wander around bottomless. My DS was 3 1/2 before we got there but Dd was 21 months. Think they all do it exactly when they are ready.
