Is he ready or not?

My DS 2yr 1mth has been in underpants for a week. His cousin (same age) has recently trained and he was really excited for her when she went on the potty, and was asking himself to go on it.
We put him on the potty every 20-30 mins and he does a wee. He doesn't ask to go to the potty - just comes up to me when he's had an accident and tells me he's done wee wee. He recognises when he's wet his trousers but not before it to be able to tell us he needs it.
Didn't have a single accident in first 5 days as we just kept putting him on potty but now I've not been asking him as much, he has an accident.
in your opinion, is he ready or not?

You know what, it's so difficult to say when they're ready as they really are so different. .you will know better than anyone! My ds was 2 and 8 months when he was trained, I always felt I wanted to wait until I knew he had a real understanding of needing pee pees and poos and what his potty was for:-) for about 3 months before we started I just had his potty sitting in the same room as us, not making a deal of it at all..sometimes teddy would be plonked on it, or he would sit on it..(put it on his head) just getting it used t it being there really. Woul talk lots about it and what it was for. .but still we would just have it in same room as us. When I fi ally did start, he was so excited and almost desperate to get started..and I was amazed at how he took to it..hardly any accidents and we never had a poo accident. I also picked a thomas the tank potty (thomas daft) and he just loved it. So hang on in there..and don't listen to all the smug mums who tell you that you must train before they'r 2. Follow your instinct. Good luck! X
