DS keeps asking for nappy to be put back on

Yesterday DS did first wee in potty
So I thought I'd better take the leap into potty training- he's 3.5
Big boy pants today, staying in, potty nearby, trying to be relaxed about it all.

Had one accident and wet his pant he got v upset. Spent rest of morning holding wee refusing to put any pants on. then he did a wee in potty.

All morning he has been asking for nappy to go back on. He's getting a bit distressed about it

Should I give up and try another time. I don't want to put him off, or should I just persevere ?

Persevere!! I'd say, once you take the nappy off, it stays off until bedtime when a night time nappy is ok until he's dry at night.

If he is getting distressed I would allow him to have a nappy back on - though suggest that you are putting it back on so he doesn't worry but encourage him to ask for it to be taken off to wee in the potty. Then get some of the pull-ups so that he can do it himself while still not worrying. He needs his confidence building at this stage and to be happy - he will, shortly, tell you when he is ready to abandon the nappy totally.

I waited with both my DS and DD offering them the choice of nappy or pants at intervals - when they chose they only had one accident each so it was worth the wait compared to the amount of washing and carpet cleaning my friends went through!

Can you tell him you dont have any?

That's what worked for us. He asked, and I told him I had thrown them away as he was a big boy now so had to do a wee in the potty. He was fine.

He also got really upset at accidents, so I made a joke of it. I had a daft song and used to tickle him whilst cleaning him.
