2 year old asked to use the potty. Is he ready?

My DS of 2 years and 1 day told me to change his nappy (a first!). he is pre-occupied with poop and whilst he was examining his nappy contents, i was cleaning him up. He then asked to use his potty so I fetched it. After 5-10 minutes of 'straining', ups and downs, cheers (even when nothing there!) he finally did a little poo and a wee. Grin

So, is this him 'telling' me he is ready to be trained?

We have been encouraging him to come with us to the toilet and he loves to flush it.

My childminder with over 30 yeara experience had offered to potty train him during his 3 days there. She says if they aren't trained in 3 days, they obviously are not ready and she leaves it a month and tries again. He goes back on Thursday. I am tempted to begin tomorrow and ask my childminder to continue.

Is he too young?

not too young if he seems up for it. DS was day trained by the age of 2 as he was receptive to the idea and had been going to the toilet with us and watching what we were doing.
