We used toddler size for dd, laid it over the bed at bottom height.
It would move though if she had a restless night, so the single size might be more effective.

We have the Hippychick single bed sized. We found DD2 moved around too much and it crunched up at the sides.

I just bought HippyChick single fitted sheets instead. £ but simpler. We previously had the fitted cot sheets.
