potty training shopping list

so far ive got on it:

baby bjorn potty chair
car seat liner
packs of pants (mickey mouse if poss)

what else do I need? ds is 20 months but showing signs so thought we'd give it a go

I would keep potty in bathroom. We just use the toilet seat attachment rather than a potty, as it was easier and more hygienic I felt but then ds was 2.5, and to do that you also need to buy a step.

20m is v young so don't stress if it doesn't work.

Ikea potty was good for us. And Morrisons do them for a pound. We only have bathrooms upstairs, so was handy to have more than one (plus good to keep a cheapie in the car).

Didn't know you could get car seat liners!

Don't go mad on one type of pants initially; took a few different sizes/brands to find ones that seemed most comfy for my chunky monkey ds (altho didn't start potty training til he was 2.5). He wears the jockey style ones as briefs not a good fit/gave builder's bum.

I like using the flushable Andrex wipes. Handy when out and about.

Vast quantities of cheapest pants you can find so u can throw out the ones with poo in them without guilt.

My ds has never pooed in his pants? He's 2.10 now...and still insists on having a nappy on to have a poo! Grr.

ive already got a little step that he uses to reach the sink to wash his hands and face after meals.

ill add 2 toilet seats to the list.

it might be early but figured if it is im just organised for when hes ready next time

he tells me when hes done a poo and when his nappy is wet he pulls it away from him so I think its worth a go

Thinking back to my list at the time...liners for car seat, a potty and stepstool for each toilet, travel potty for out and about...every bit of which I sold within 2 weeks as he never used any of them!! Save your money.

I would not have been without the old fashioned trainer pants - terry lined and waterproof outside. They are great for catching the inevitable accidents but still being pants not a nappy. We have used them at first full time, even in the house where there are carpets and then just when going out or in the car for long journeys when sleep was likely but I didn't want to go back to a nappy in the daytime. (I did pad them with a Terry nappy sometimes at first in the car or out.) I am about to fish them out of the back of the nappy cupboard for DD2 who is 22 months and, by the standards of my 5 is showing some signs of relatively early abiiity to wriggle when about to wee!

I 'd add a potette (Google it). It doubles up as a travel potty and loo seat.

What you have got already, plus:

Squirty dettol / plenty of kitchen roll (assuming wood floors, if not, carpet cleaner - cannot imagine clean up on carpetS!!)

Don't bother with car seat liner, we just used pampers change mats strategically placed. Also didn't use portable potty thing, would just get him to wee outside if emergency etc though for the first couple weeks after training we never went anywhere where couldn't get to the loo quite easily and car journeys were max 20 mins (which is just a function of our general routine as opposed to design).

Two potties (sp?!) or as many as you need to not have to run from one end of the house to the other with one.

Would second more pairs of pants than you think you need - think I started with 3 x 5 pair packs and though for the first couple of days we went pants free (naked from waist down), for a couple days after I would easily get through 7-10 pairs a day.

I trained my son at 20 months, took about a week. Good luck!

Oh we also had a couple of pairs of Bright Bots training pants which are like normal pants but with a waterproof layer. They feel just like normal pants though. They will give better protection for a (v) short while after a wee so good to use on eg first outings. You can get them on Amazon.
