We've found ourself potty training ds at short notice. His nursery are amazing & last week they suggested it. We decided to go along with it & just see what happens.

I got (cheap) crocs, as they suggested, so if he has an accident you can just rinse & go. I've provided pants & spare trousers. Today I got an extra potty so we can have one upstairs & down and got some absorbent mats for the car seat.

Day 1 he's had 4 accidents in the am & 1 in the pm & then one at home cos I wasn't quick enough to help him.

I feel a bit unorganised, so would appreciate any tips & tricks you've all learnt that'll make it easier for him & make me chill out about potential damage to the carpets!

I know only this trick - give the child a chocolate button every time they successfully use the potty.

If you're not keen on using sweets as a reward, a song and a dance will work well too. As in an actual song, and a little dance. Blush

More pants than you think you'll ever need. If poos are problematic, sometimes DC will be happier doing them on the toilet rather than in a potty. Get a toilet seat and use that when you're near the bathroom.

Put them on the potty every half hour for the first few days, then lengthen the time. Don't ask them if they need a wee at the start because they won't know. That comes later.

Ah, but noble, I could hand the nursery a spare pack of chocolate buttons - could you explain the steps of the reward dance? Wink

Well we're down to 1 accident & 2 wees on the potty today. He got a round of applause from me & his nana after the one he did at home.
I went & bought 12 pairs of pants & 4 more pairs of trousers yesterday too!
We bought a family toilet seat a few months ago when we re-did the bathroom, so we're sorted there.
I've got him a postman pat present, but I'll probably keep it for when he does a poo, if that's the scariest bit.
Thanks for the advice.

my toddler tack poow on me

Sorry, not sure what that meant!

I'm not sure how well we're doing now. He's had tonnes of accidents at nursery, but they think he's going fine. He's starting to do more wees on the potty, but this morning got so stressed about really needing to go, but kept refusing to sit on the potty, got up half way through & I got covered!

Anyone got much experience with Huggins training pants? They don't seem much different to nappies to me.
