Stubborn or Unaware?

Hello! I have just begun potty training with a little girl aged 23 months and was hoping for some advice/experience. We are on day 3 so far with, as yet, no success. We have thrown away all the nappies and have gone straight into pants. I am sitting her on the potty for a few minutes every half hour, which she is happy to do, however she doesn't do anything and holds her wee until I leave the room and come back to find her in a puddle on the sofa! I don't know how to establish whether she is being stubborn and choosing not to wee on the potty or whether she genuinely doesn't know when she needs to go. Her language is pretty good and we have explained many times what she needs to do as well as having her older sister demonstrate on the potty. Any experience regarding this very gratefully received, have I started to early? Thank you x

None of my three were potty trained till they were approaching 3. I'm afraid I couldn't handle the months of puddles everywhere that some friends endured! I would try periodically, and if it wasn't succeeding after a few days they would go back into nappies/trainer pants. I did worry that it was quite late at the time, but when it did click, it was day and night pretty much straightaway.
It doesn't sound to me like she is ready at the moment! Either you could persevere for a bit to see if she catches on, or completely forget it for a few weeks, then have another go, maybe?

Try bare bottomed method and if she doesn't get that then it's too early. Sometimes when they're ready-ish but not quite there knickers can feel like nappies.

Of course you then have the problem of transitionin into pants and that's where I'm currently stuck!

Really feel for you - I've got exactly the same problem, though with poos only really, with my 3.3 DS, and the advice I've had is to drop it and try again a bit later. The halfway house situation is pretty damn awful, that's for sure, so I'd avoid it as much as possible.

I have had a little bit of success with a star chart - x amounts of poos in the potty equals a toy, as an incentive. Perhaps that might work?

23 months is still quite little. Are you sure she's ready?
