We started potty training a week ago because my DS suddenly indicated he was ready for it. He's been largely successful at getting to the potty in time for wees and poos (with lots of reminders) when he's been dressed in just a little top and nothing else (by which I mean only a couple of accidents a day). But now the weather's changed, he has a cold, and he says he's too cold unless he's in trousers.
On Sunday he didn't even think to go the potty once and so got through 6 changes of clothes. No more trousers available. Today I had him just in pants regardless of the cold, but that had the same effect. Whenever I asked him if he needed the potty he screamed that he didn't and wouldn't go, and in one case weed on the floor just a minute later. As my DP says, he just doesn't get that he has to go the potty unless he is naked down below.
He's getting quite discouraged, and so am I. Shall I just keep with the no pants and stay indoors for the next week? (He's a very active chap, and climbing the walls, not to mention drawing all over them yesterday). How soon before I can risk pants again? Does taking him out in pants/trainer pants to the playground mean he'll go a step back? We need to go away for a week in 8 days' time, so I really need to nail this one.
