Go for it, or keep gently trotting along?

DS is nearly 22mo and until his wees got too big 3 months ago was in cloth nappies. We've recently moved house and ever since he's been happy to sit on the loo (with potette plus for a seat) and do a poo/wee in the morning, particularly if he sees one of us on the loo. He's done some wees in his potty which he's quite happy to sit on, but though he tends to tell us he wants a poo, he doesn't with wees as a matter of course (tends to say poo regardless).

He's in pull ups during the day now for ease of access and nappies at night - should we try and go cold turkey on the nappies and get it all over with or continue with the gradual approach? Nursery is on board.

One other thing to note - we're in rented, with a carpeted bathroom, so this has a bearing on things!

Any advice appreciated!

Personally I didn't use pull ups during the day with my two older dds. 5 & 4. I toilet trained them together when one was 2 1/2 and other 1 1/2. Took about 2 weeks to have them dry all day. No potties, lots off poo and pee on livingroom/ bedroom carpets, used a non bleach cleaner. I done night training the next summer.
I am about to start toilet training with dd3 who is 20 months. Dreading the mess :)

We had same story as you. DD is 22 months, was happily going on the potty after sleeps and before evening bath and regularly doing wees and poos in one. Showed all signs of being ready. I started potty training properly 2 weeks ago and result now is she won't sit on potty at all and doesn't wee when awake (in nappy or otherwise). She's also been a horror to be around. We've gone back to nappies, as I think I really stressed her out with it.

Not to say that you'll have the same experience, but just to warn you!

Hmm thanks for the words of warning Lala - I think we'll maybe stick to what we're doing now!
Also thanks to melmo for the reply too
