Back to pull ups or not?

I have a 3 and a half year old son, he has been dry during the day for over a year now so I decided 6 months ago to try at night. We have some dry nights and some wet, his problem is he doesn't seem to wake himself up to go on his potty. His potty is in his room and I lift him before I go to bed, he doesn't have anything to drink about an hour before bed. After 6 months I thought he would've got the hang of it but he hasn't. Should I put him back in pull ups and wait until they are dry or keep trying with nothing?

THis is how my DS was and we lifted him for a long time probably at least a year if not longer. HAd a waterproff mattress cover then layered up cut up sheets and waterproof bed mats so didn't have to strip bed totally. Then he suddenly got the hang of it. But on nights when he was extremely tired he couldn't wake himself up and would wet the bed which wasn't so bad at home but when camping was hard work. It was the summer before he started school at 4yo that he was fairly reliable, but still had accidents when he was very tired until he was at least 7, though they got less frequent.

I think it is a developmental thing, my MIL insisted that because he had a nappy on he would always pee in it, but I think it's more complex than that!

Sorry I know that doesn't help particularly.

I am having the same issues. can't offer advice but today I found some waterproof pants in tescos and some pads called dry like me. They basically look like mini triangular sanitary towels. Grin. From what I've read its a developmental thing so I think I have to just wait it out but my DS really doesn't want to wear nappies so I'm hoping this will tide us over. Changing the sheets at night just isn't fun!
