Can it be this quick?

On day 4 and we've only had 2 accidents - first wee on day one and two. Since then DD (2.5) has given us warning that a wee is coming (although sometimes its poo or just wind) and so far we've managed to get to the potty on time. Don't get me wrong, we are really over the moon with the quick progress. We've tried a couple of days on and off over the last couple of months and had zero success so we decided to hold off until now. Have we just timed it right eventually? I'm due DC2 in a couple of months and everyone told me I was pushing it doing it now. I should add we are only attempting day time and using pull ups for nap time, although DD is not keen on wearing them, should I go for nap times too?

With DS it was that quick at about the same age.

If she is pretty dry when waking from a nap I would try for them, you can always lie him on a towel just incase.

Ime when they are ready it can be very quick, literally done in a fee days.

If nappies seem dry after nap time you can try without, just lay her on a towel or the disposable bed mats you get. Pampers do them but you can buy the same thing at the pet shop for much less. I have them on my ds4'sbed in case of accidents and had a bunch of them for when I was booked for a home birth.

Yes dd1 did at that age, she said in the morning she was wearing pants that day and that was it. Depends on the child I think as dd2 took more persuasion at the same age. Was still pretty easy going tho. I think its just a good age to do it, they tend to be quite ready.

My dd was the same, I had tried for 2 days at 18 months when she asked to try but it was obvious she wasn't ready. She asked again at 22 months and that was it! Apart from the very occasional accident in the next few months (usually when busy playing) it was pretty immediate.

Oh, took a lot longer to crack bedtime tho. Dd2 still wears nappies at night and if she falls asleep during the day she's as likely as not to have an accident (she's just turned 3!) And dd1 is still a bit hit and miss at night (4.5!)

Anecdotally, my nephew was pretty much dry the day they took the nappies off at about that age.

Yup. And 'dry at night' has turned out to be simple too. Looks as if, if the hormones or whatever it is are in place, they don't pee in their sleep. We haven't done any of the lifting to pee we read about and discussed with friends.

DS1 took a few months because he was not quite two when we started. We went for it at that age because I kept finding him perched on the loo with his nappy off, but it took about three months for him to be reliable.

DS2 was 2 years 2 months & was clean & dry by day within a couple of weeks.

DS3 was 2 years 5 months, & was literally clean & dry by day within a few days - he was so ready.

The older two were probably 4 or 5 before they were dry at night, and one of them would occasionally have wet beds even after that.

I wanted to get DS3 dry at night earlier if I could, and a wise old friend of mine whose four DC were older than mine suggested that as soon as they are dry in the day, try leaving the nappy/pull ups off at night as well. I tried that with DS3, we had one wet bed the first morning & after that he was completely dry at night. So he was dry day & night within a week.

Sounds like we've waited and started when DD is really ready which is reassuring to know. I think we'll wait until DD is dry after lunchtime sleeps consistently for a week or so and try going without a pull up then, and see how we get on with night time after that. To add to the mix we've just moved DD into a single bed so its probably a lot of change in a short time so I don't want to push her too much!

Yes it can. I first tried DD at 18 months and she clearly wasn't ready. I tried at 2 years 8 months and it took 3 days. A month later she was dry at night.

Drama - my DD has the occasional dry nappy in the morning, do you think I should try leaving a nappy off and seeing if she can be dry at night? I sort of thought that I should wait until she has a dry nappy most nights

Yes. Ds was 2.8 & it just clicked one day. I was a nervous wreck waiting for it to all go wrong & it just... Didn't.

Whispers well, it worked for my DS so it could be worth a try. I didn't have any great expectations that it would work, but my friend had done this with all four of hers (3 girls & a boy) & said it was worth trying so they didn't get used to having a wet nappy on waking.

I think also I went for it with him because my older two never had a dry nappy or pull-up in the mornings even at the age of 4 so I wanted to try something different with DS3.

OP good luck with your DD - sounds like she's going great.

So a week in and we seem to be doing ok, the odd accident on nursery days (but the nursery said she did say she needed the potty but they didn't get her there in time as they were playing outside) so really pleased. Nap times are def dry so I think we'll have a go at leaving pull ups off next week. Am tempted to move onto night time soon too, or is this too much in one go?

I think DD is dry all night but goes in her nappy first thing when she wakes up, at the moment she gets up and plays for a little while in her room before the sun comes up on the clock thank god I thought about putting a potty in her room and seeing if she wanted to use it in the morning?

Any thoughts?

I tried DD overnight but ended up putting a nappy on her halfway through the second night! Ah well, I'll wait a few months and try again
