PT - carry on or pause?

We've been trying DD in pants for 2 weeks.
She's good at using the potty. She pretty reliable at poos, will ask for the potty if she needs one and only had one accident in 2 weeks.
She doesn't yet recognise if she needs to pee in advance, though she will say potty during or after the event. We're reminding her to sit on the potty for pees and reading her stories to encourage her. She's peeing every 1-2 hours awake, dry for nights and naps.

Would she have got this by now if she was going to? Do we stop and try again in a few months? Or could it be we're reminding her too much and should leave her to her own devices more? With DS we just got lazy about reminding him and he started telling us, but he needed reminding every 20 minutes so that was a bit different!

How old is your DD?

If you keep prompting her bladder won't be getting and feeling full so she might not be getting used to that feeling. I'd suggest telling her you aren't going to ask her any more and see how she gets on for a day or two...

Possibly too young, she's not 2 yet. She has such a lot of control we thought worth a try. I think you may be right we do need to let her have more accidents so she can learn from them. She's so different from big bro when he PT'd! More able in many ways but she's a lot younger so I don't know what to expect.

That's the thing that confuses me BRS. DS couldn't recognise he needed a pee beforehand (or during or after-hand!), so we thought he wasn't ready. He forced our hand into trying anyway by shredding nappies as soon as they were put on. He was PT'd in a couple of weeks. Talking to friends a lot also found they didn't learn to spot it beforehand until during PT. Certainly with DS I think he'd just got into a dribbling into nappy habit so he never had a full bladder to be able to spot the signs, like jennimoo says. But DD is a different kettle of fish in many ways so maybe that way too!

I'd give her a day or two of no prompting and then tell her its back to nappies and she can let you know when she wants to wear pants, then revisit in a few months.

DD was doing similar at nearly 2: could go 6h sometimes, dry for naps, when she would sit on potty and have stories would go but wasn't ready. Tried again 6m later and after a couple of ok days refused potty! I then told her it was her decision, and 6 weeks later she decided to wear pants and pt with no hassle...

Ok, now I've just lost the plot, I have no idea if I was reminding or not reminding today but we had a lot of accidents suddenly. Back to nappies but we'll keep on encouraging potty use - at least we shouldn't have to clean up pooey bums any more touch wood. Even if we try again in a year she'll still be younger than DS trained. As you say jennimoo, she might take things into her own hands anyway one way or other :)

She knows the option is there if she wants it. With DS we had an unsuccessful weekend. A week later he asked to wear pants ( they were still in his drawer) and he was dry for wees and poos, night and day within a week. He was 2.8.

... and of course as soon as she's back in nappies we get about a zillion potty requests. Contrary miss. Let's see what she does for the next couple of weeks, if she asks for pants I guess she can try again.
