Anyone with poo problems - there is hope!

Dd has been a nightmare with poo for the last 9 months (she's 2.3 now). Withholding, hiding and crying, shouting at me to go away, constipation, medication... She potty trained really well for wee but would still only do poo in knickers (eventually!)... Well, last few days she's got a few poos in the potty and today actually did a poo in a big loo in a restaurant with me holding her! I'm beyond happy (and gobsmacked), just wanted to share this in case anyone else is potty training a nightmare poo-er and feeling like there is no hope!

Thanks DIY, good to know. We've not had 9 months of it by any means but I'm already wondering how to stop the holding it and then pooing in the bath.

That is so good to hear and funny as I was complaining recently that no one ever says 'it got better' though one assumes it does in the end! We are about 2 months in and weeing is perfect but still will only poo in the nighttime nappy (if we miss that window DS just hangs on until the next night). Did you do anything to help or did it just resolve itself as it were?! Thanks again for posting xx

We found that sitting on the toilet while the bath was running encouraged a poo in the loo rather than the bath.

feelinghip I think she just kind of figured it out in the end. We just kept saying 'where should you poo? in the potty. Not in knickers!' Bribery with special chocolates helped too - don't usually do this for anything but we were getting fed up of washing pooey pants. It's still going well, today she took herself off to the potty, pooed, and then brought it to show me. She's still on movicol, but I'm really hoping we'll be able to gradually take her off it now she's stopped withholding.

Great news! We've had years of trouble with DS1, a gradual improvement culminated in a rectal prolapse and then back to square one. Now improving again but he is already 5!!! Glad to hear your little one seems to be getting sorted early on.

My ds 2.9 has been withholding for 4 months. With a little help from movicol things have improved slightly and were on our second attempt at pt.

In 3 weeks I've had 2 poos on the potty! Just need to get him out of naked potty training and into pants lol xx

my DD tried this but I made sure she had eaten plenty of fiber. oranges, plums, and if there was no sign half a teaspoon in boiling cup of water, allowed to cool, then some squeezed orange juice. half a big one. gave it in the morning and sure enough there was an easy to do poo. I found easy to do poos were easy to potty train. I still use pullups when DD is sick to take the pressure off.
