Gagging on the toilet.

My DS is potty training this week, it's going really well thus far.
However, when he is on the toilet he often gags - and even retches a bit. This is for a wee - we haven't had a successful poo on the potty as yet!
He has been known to gag when he has done a particularly nasty poo, in his nappy, but I don't know why he is now doing it after a wee!

I would just put him back in nappies with no fuss tbh

Why? He is doing really well with weeing, and likes wearing pants - he needs to be trained by Sept as he is going to nursery. I just wanted to know why he is gagging!

perhaps he feels bad?

My dd used to do this. I stopped it by doing a number of things:

1). Making sure the toilet was bleached every day to eliminate any smells (obviously do this last thing at night so it doesn't smell of bleach during the day)

2). Open windows and use air freshner. Let your DS see you using the air freshner. This helped my DD.

3).Distraction. Let him take some books to 'read' whilst on the loo.

HTH!
