Very frequent accidents on day 1

DS is 2y9m and often has dry nappy first thing in the morning and will do a big wee on the potty. Have tried getting him to go at other times but usually without success. Decided to go for it today with pants as have a few days free and would really like to get it cracked before arrival of dc2 in 2 months time. He has managed 2 small wees on the potty, which he got lots of applause, stickers and chocolate buttons for, and has had 9 small accidents wetting pants and trousers, sometimes less than an hour apart. Is this normal and do they gradually get better at holding it in, or is he not ready yet? I knew there would be accidents today but didn't expect him to be urinating so frequently. I always thought once I'd started I'd never go back but at the end of day 1 I'm already starting to wonder!

Totally normal I am afraid. Some may take a few weeks like ds1 and other months like my dd.

Thanks for the prompt reply. You're right I need to stick with it. Wasn't expecting it to be easy but have got 2 friends who have just done it with sons of the same age really easily grrrrrrr.

It can be really easy (as in cracking it within a week) but until you teach them how not to be, little ones are basically incontinent for the first few days. You just wouldn't see it, because parents normally hole up for those days!
