How late is too late?

DS1 is 3.2 & refuses to potty train. We've not pushed it until now as we figure he'll do it when he's ready, plus we have a 7 month old too so it's a case of pick your battles.

However, I'm getting conscious that the majority of his peers are potty trained, & the number of children at nursery still in nappies is dwindling. We've tried pull up nappies, pants, rewards & he'll get it for a day then just forget about it again.

Should we try pushing it more forcefully or is there still plenty of time? At what age should we start worrying if he's still not in pants?

Any ideas for alternative methods gratefully received.

Well they say that by the time they go to primary school they should be able to go to the toilet themselves and also be able to wipe themselves. My daughter was the same abd was really against the potty and toilet etc.. However now its only took her a week and shes brilliant. We didnt push it on her bcos we didnt want to make it scary for her. Have u tried the toilet instead of the potty? And id suggest speaking to ur health visitor who might also hve some good tips and ideas. We pretend her dollys use the toilet and make it abit of role play. I do believe that you have to be so consistant with this otherwise it can give mix messages. Have yoy tried just taking the nappies and pull ups off him altogether? Yes he will have accidents but maybe he needs to feel wet and unfortable to make him want to use the potty or toilet?? I hope u have a break through with it soon! Good luck x

We've tried normal pants & he just doesn't care if he's wet. He had one day where he had no accidents all day so I know he's capable he just doesn't want to.

Leave it til it's warm outside and let him run in the garden with nothing on. Leave a potty about and see if he will use it. It worked for my 2 boys but every one is different and they can be buggers if they want.

If it's any consolation, ds2 is exactly the same age and is totally uninterested in the potty or toilet. He screams and arches his back if we try to lift him on, so we have just left it for now.

DS1 was dry both day and night at 2.6yo, so this is new territory for us too.
