should i start potty training?

Hi new member here! I was hoping for some insight. My son is nearly 19 months he's not talking much but does understand quite a bit i was thinking of starting to potty train but wondering if him not talking much would make this harder as he wouldnt say mum potty etc...also was wondering what the best nappies/training pants were best for during the day and night so if i was to start id no what ones to get ... Thanks for any replies

Can he indicate at all that he needs a wee/poo - eg. sign language? Can he pull his clothes up and down himself?

Until a child can indicate they need to go, pull their trousers up and down, and have some bladder control (are going hours between wees rather than weeing all the time) then there's not much point imo.

He stops and "concentrates" then runs over to me as if to say I'm done now mum but other wise no not really, its only come about really because the other day he started "concentrating" in the bath so I popped him on the loo and he went he got lots of praise from his dad and i and seemed quite pleased with himself so we thought Hmm...perhaps we should start...thankyou for replying :-)

19 months is quite young...

Stick a few potty around the house and in the bathroom. Tell him when you are doing a wee or a poo! My dd took interest in the potty at 16 months. She is now 19 months and trained in the day. She is talking though. Also let him have lots of nappy free time- watch for when he is stopping to concentrate and stick him on a potty. Then say something like 'wee wee in the potty'.
I didn't use training pants/ nappies as I think these give mixed messages. We just went for cheap pants in primark and in the sales. We do have tiled and laminate floor so can mop up accidents easily.
I guess you need to be relaxed - if it doesn't seem to be working try again at a later date! Good luck
