Potty training and going out

Ds is 2.7 we have casually started using the toilet (he has a trainer seat).

He's got good at it and I can tell if he needs to go so usually whip him on quick but he doesn't exactly tell me when he needs to go so was wondering what people do when you need to go out?

I'm going into town on thurs and don't really want to put him in a nappy as that will confuse him especially as he's doing so well but I don't trust him to tell me needs to go.

I know people say you need to dedicate a few days indoors which I'm going to do today and tomorrow but I didnt really start potty training he just asked!

I put DS on the toilet every 30 mins whether he told me he wanted to or not.

We also had this, which is fabulous.

I was just about to post about this. My DS is also 2.7 & we introduced the potty casually a few months ago but this week we have been in all week while he gets used to using it & going regularly etc. but as you said OP, it's taking DS out in to town that's going to be tough. I'm planning on doing short journeys to my mums & home to see how he does first before braving the town. Will be watching with interest.

Put him.on the loo before you go out, put him on the loo as soon as you get there and evrry thirty mins or so while out. Loo again before you leave and first thinf when you get home.

And lots of spare clothes

wifey I think we were on the July thread together!

Thanks for replies he's actually fine when we go out I always take him before we go and make sure we are within easy reach of a toilet.

We had one poo accident in Next(!) but apart from that its been fine. So pleased he's picked it up quickly.

QTPie, just found this thread. Can I ask, how did the "retentive" thing sort itself out? My daughter is holding on for very long periods of time and looking very uncomfortable while she does. She sits on the potty lots during the time she's looking so uncomfortable but still can't seem to wee. Yesterday she didn't wee from 8am until 4.45pm, drinking lots and lots during that time. Did you find anything that helped your son wee, or does this sort of thing just get better with time?
