Potty training and the school run?

I'm thinking of properly having a go at potty training DS2 (2y 9m), but don't quite know what to do with him on the school run for DS1.

It's a 10 min walk and we're usually out for 25-30mins, plus time faffing about with coats etc.

What do you do if your DCs are caught short? Does it work getting them to have a pee just before going out? Do you take the potty with you?

I'm working for part of half term and we're away a bit, so may just wait till after that - never seems to be a right time to just get on with it.

I was thinking exactly the same thing! DS3 is showing lots of signs of being ready but I just can't face it with the school run - ours takes more like an hour! My plan is to start in a holiday but if you are working then this is not going to work as well. Stupidly I can not remember what I did with DS2. I think I waited until he was three which was in the Easter holidays and he got the idea very quickly. I did think that I might start on a weekend and see how he gets on. I also thought about getting those pad things that go in the pants and already have some pushchair / car seat protectors. I also have a potette plus but found that by the time I set it up and got troucers down it was usually too late! No help really so would love to hear from someone who has a better idea!

I've potty trained 18m dd but don't have a school run. We have done shopping trips and town runs. I have a potty in a bag with kitchen roll, antibacterial wipes, wet wipes and nappy sacks to cover any eventuality. I'd sit him it before you leave. Ask school to use their loos when you get there and then come home.

My potty kit has never needed anything other than the antibacterial wipes as I've always used te potty in the toilet.

I have heard and read one of the good things about potty training later is they are more likely and bigger and happier to use the toilet. Perhaps ask of he can use the school toilets when you drop the other child off?

Put a towel in the pushchair and as he is a boy he can wee in a bush or into a drain if caught short.

Encourage him to have a 'wee check' last thing before you go out, good luck :)

Our school run is 30 min and until now we had no accidents! Wee before leaving the house and wee as soon as we get to the school. I still waiting for the day he's gonna wee on the bus!!!!!! Thanks, I think we'll try the pee before heading out the door, and they have loos at school we could ask about using too.

And I like the idea of potty plus kitchen roll & nappy bags etc. I could happily hang that on the pushchair handle. That little potette's quite a good idea too.

I'm only working over the half term, doing a first aid course to set me up for contract work, so i think we'll have a go after that. I'm hoping once we get stuck into it seriously, he'll be old enough to give me just enough notice.

Just a bit concerned too though that DS is refusing to wear pants, and is inisitant on going command under his trousers. Fine for pees, slightly concerned about poos.
