3.7 DS will only go in pullups, starting school Sept panic setting in

Panic beginning to set in, 3.7 DS will only go in pullups, mostly refuses to even sit on a toilet/potty. Doesn't seem to know if he needs to go. Been trying for nearly 18 months both at home and full time day nursery. Really worried he won't be dry for school in September. Delayed speech (glue ear) probably didn't help with understanding. Don't know whether to contact health visitor/doctor yet? Any advice gratefully received!

Don't panic. My DS2 was 4yrs and 1 or 2 months when he stopped wearing pull-ups. Like your child - mine had a few niggling issues that I think made him a little late in getting toilet trained I had images of me going into school several times a day to change him.

If you have a nice HV team speak to them. I did and they gave me some info and it did help us to get him out of pull ups into pants. If not a nice HV then the Dr.

It will be fine.

My mate's big brother wouldn't toilet train at all and their mother thought they'd have to cancel him starting school - he decided to wear pant the day before school started and was fine.

We pay the day nursery a fortune and they give up every time we try and he has 6+ accidents a day in his big boy pants. He doesn't seem to mind though, just carries right on playing without saying a word. I've had those images, going into school to change won't be an option anyway as work to school is a two hour round trip...

I think I'll ring the HV for advice first like you said, they were great over the hearing problems. Thanks again.

we're in the same boat and have started using Dry Like Me pads which are a big step away from pull ups. They catch the worst when there are accidents (like you sometimes 6+ a day) so the underwear is saved (!) but we've also noticed a big change in success as the pull-ups aren't there as a safety net any more.
